For Lighthouse, the designers’ idea was to light up a voluminous round glass structure that would be supported by a delicate aluminium stick to express the precariousness of balance. Just as a piece of glass hangs in its original state on the end of the blowing pipe, their design includes only one very precise point of contact between the stick and the column. This demonstrates the vulnerability of the column. While the base and the stick were made by industrial processes, the glass was blown using traditional techniques.
